La Vie de Bohème: Arabesque

La Vie de Bohème: Arabesque

Sometimes I feel in our lives we move around from place to place or person to person to find our home. I like to think that what the ultimate goal for the person who wants to do one of these styled portrait sessions with us is to get a feeling that you ARE “home”. It isn’t a geographic location. Nor, does it really exist outside of yourself. Whatever place you are in your life you not only want to play but you want to say: I AM the ideal. I do know that who I am and what I look like, what I will look like is something/someone of value and someone I want to be.

We are all the labels that have been and will be ascribed to us: male, female, black, white, red, brown, yellow, straight, gay, other, scientist, waitress, artist, worker, boss, mother, father, lover, etc…. We are all of that and we also are: feminine, masculine, dark, light, dreamy, tenacious, push-overs, hard, soft, and more. We are works of art with complex patterns, textures, and shapes. We should celebrate it with our heads held up, on tippy toe, with arms pointed forward and upward.

We are made up of it all. There is no right or wrong. There is only what is going to work in that moment, for the future, for one, for many, or for all. We observe it, acknowledge it, live in it, have fun with it, and mostly, honour it.

That’s why I want to do these. That is what I hope you will get out of these. We are, whatever, wherever, and however: home.

This was our biggest and most colourful production to date:

Model: Ghazal – the calm and quiet storm with the deepest and most secretive eyes

Steamline Rental: the wonderful and lovely people at Tin Can Studio

Makeup & Hair/Hair Pieces/Prop Crafter…: my tolerant “sister” & business partner Mizella Alparaque

Set & Set Dec: Everyone & mainly the beautiful bohemian queen herself, Laura-Lee Gerwing

Very extra extra special thanks to Victor Totten for jumping to the rescue with the use of his property when we just couldn’t get a spot without travelling far away or paying an armload.

Waking Up.

Waking up.

That feeling. You know the one? In that little space before you truly awake. That little breath, that pause, that openness before thought and words kick in. It’s a lightness: you feel weightless. You are lifted, elevated, or levitating just a little bit above where you are lying, standing, sitting, walking, jogging, lounging…. Then, that thing happens at the corner of your lips. You can’t stop it; you don’t want to. Then it happens. A sigh and the sly, knowing, closed lipped smile spreads across your face. Eyes still closed but they are still sparkling. Basking in this invisible light that creeps in through the cracks. It’s an incredible thing to experience and you are all alone. You get to have it all to yourself. You are in love and it is a powerful thing. Wish all of us could feel this. Wish all of us could love ourselves the way we know we could love another. Even if it is fleeting. If even just for an instant.

More work from Mizella and I. Check out Mizella Alparaque’s work!

This time with the amazing Ms. M. Thank you!
