Children’s Outdoor Lifestyle Photography
Couple of monkeys at the playground! These two are something special! I cannot tell you what it means to me to be a photographer who captures children being, well, children. The time is so short and finite. It disappears when you want to just hang on to it forever.
Maybe it has to do with this overwhelming sense of freedom that they so uninhibitedly express when they play. There is also absolutely something about working with little girls. Absolutely, being a mama to a little guy, whom I am trying my best to raise as a feminist, makes me value it more. I feel, knowing what these girls are likely going to be facing in the future is a big part of it. Watching them at this age makes me hopeful too.
In general, children’s photography to me is not necessarily looking to capture a magical moment because the whole experience of being a child should be about the reality of being free. Definitely freer than they will ever get to feel as all the emotions and experiences associated with growing up start really making an impact on your life.
I like to think that the importance of my role as a photographer of kids is that I am an objective witness. Not the parent or a family member. It’s a peek into your kids’ lives that you probably don’t even realize you wanted to see!
