Grad Photos in Vancouver – High School Photos – High School Grad Photography – Vancouver, BC -MW
Sometimes there is a level of coolness in a person that is unmistakeable. This high school grad photography session was booked by my lovely client’s mom. Not surprisingly, mom wanted photos to mark this milestone in her daughter’s life! Mom told me from the very beginning that I had a challenge on my hands. This young lady did NOT enjoy being photographed.
That morning, my lovely subject, known as M, made her discomfort of having her photo taken known. M has a very good sense of humour and big big love for her mama, so I knew it was going to be pretty fun when the camera was “off.” When you have someone who is so uncomfortable in front of the camera, you just need to let them do their thing. M’s thing is a deep sense of calm and collectedness. That was what I wanted to capture. She has this mile long gaze that is exceptionally mysterious and engaging. She’s got this knowing look. Perhaps, a deep wisdom. Being a portrait photographer, I was all over it!
Overall, what I think we achieved here was a very subtle and honest set of portraits. There is so much truth in discomfort. The masks that we wear to hide it actually gives us away as that part of you comes peeking through the crack in the door. Truthfully, when that happens I am absolutely giddy to be the person to capture it.
Here’s another editorial style grad photography session I did, with a totally different vibe, here.
