Vancouver Promotional + Publicity Photographer – Publicity Photography – T.J. Dawe for Vancouver Fringe Festival
While freelancing, I was ecstatic to have the opportunity to photograph Fringe Festival Legend TJ Dawe for the Vancouver Fringe Festival’s Gala Event Performance of his one man show: Marathon. The images appeared in various publications promoting this event and the show.
After some extensive research and location scouting, we met up at Point Grey High School’s beautiful electric blue track. It was definitely a no-brainer for me location wise as it provided a beautiful backdrop as well as that absolutely necessary pop of colour.
It turned out to be a perfect location as TJ told me that in high school, he often practiced at this track. So, it brought back memories: good ones and not so good ones. TJ’s play is a hilariously self-deprecating account of his life experience and life lessons learned to date. For this reason, I knew we had to have images of him feigning seriousness. He claims he was never a good athlete but joined the track team anyway. It is with this knowledge of his play that I came up with the creative for this. Have him run his “marathon” going through all the various emotions that are connected with those very life experiences he reflects upon.
At the end of the day, this session was more fun than it was work. Lucky me!
