Ok guys, portrait photography seems to quite often fall into the following categories: headshots, family, couples, and boudoir. Where does men’s portrait photography fit into this? I know there are men out there who LOVE to have their photo taken. What I want to try to do with you is flip the idea of how we approach these on it’s head. I mean, let’s push it outside of our comfort zones. Or, really outside of our culture zones. What does this mean?

How about we encourage a softer side? Men have emotions, they cry, they are uneasy, they love too! Strength is in being able to freely express these emotions and feel supported in doing so. I don’t know about you but there is perhaps nothing sexier than a guy who can express their masculinity in equal measures with their femininity. Having said that, isn’t it about time we appropriated “masculinity” and “femininity?”

We’ve got to lift our men up and let them know that being a “man” is about having the courage to feel, empathize, and give freely without letting ego get in the way. It’s not about the external battle but about the internal one. Guys, what’s sexy about a guy is when they realize that it’s not about being tough and always taking. It’s about being intuitive and gentle; asking for permission. It’s about acknowledgement and about respecting the needs and wishes of others. Men of the world, know that we value that gentle, respectful, and emotionally intellectual side you have been conditioned to keep hidden. A man who has those kinds of smarts is sexy AF.
